Description
This elegant wool/silk wrap is inspired by La Vie en Rose and can be worn as a scarf or as a stole. The colours are the rich reds, from burgundy to scarlet, of a rose garden in full bloom. There’s brightness and depth here, set off by warm golden tones as well.
There are two warp layers which gives the fabric a substantial, luxurious drape. One of the warp layers has a particularly high proportion of silk and is hand-painted with cochineal, pomegranate, coreopsis and madder. The other layer is a very fine Merino/silk blend and is dyed with pomegranate. They are woven together with another silky yarn, dyed with cochineal, which is also used to create the edge of the wrap. The fringes of the two warp layers are twisted separately.
Every piece in the Jazz Festival collection is individually woven in a unique combination of hand-dyed yarns. There will never be another wrap like yours.
Dimensions
This wrap is 29 cm wide x 165 cm long (or approximately 11 x 65 inches). The fringe adds approx 14 cm (5.5 inches) at each end.

Story
Dundee’s jazz festival is held in the late autumn, when the weather can be either very, very cold or very, very damp. In other words, it’s an occasion for late nights and warm clothing! One year I found myself walking out of a concert into a hard frost, wrapping my handwoven scarf around me. It was a lively blend of purple, orange and gold, and I had the thought: this is the perfect colour palette for live jazz. The idea for my ongoing Jazz Festival collection was born.
Taking this warm colour palette into the summer season made me think of La Vie en Rose, and this painted warp was the result. It is also the basis for the quieter hues of this piece.
