Purple and olive patterned handwoven scarf in Merino, silk and yak

It just takes a small splash of colour to make a bold design statement.

Clear selection

This is an over-sized scarf which really stands out. The colourful curving stripes are impossible to miss, but there’s more. The pattern is echoed in the subtle grey body of the scarf, where repeated and reflected curves create bold graphic shapes which catch the light.

Of course, it is soft and warm to wear as well. The natural grey comes from yak fibre, which is blended with merino and silk for a lofty and luxurious yarn. The contrast colours are naturally dyed with cochineal and weld.

Every scarf in the Graphic collection is individually woven in a unique combination of hand-dyed yarns. There will never be another scarf like yours.

This scarf is 28 cm wide x 170 cm long (or approximately 11 x 67 inches). The fringe adds approx 10 cm (4 inches) at each end.

This graphic design is the unexpected result of an unexpected year.

During lockdown in 2020, with limited supplies of materials, I found myself revisiting a structure which is perfect for small amounts of hand-dyed yarn. Continuing the theme of the wave-inspired shapes in my Flow collection, I found myself drawing this simple curved line and enjoying its positive and negative spaces.

Together the line and the yarn found their perfect foil in the naturally grey blend of merino, silk and yak, which is a firm favourite of mine.

This scarf was woven at home on my 32-shaft Toika Eeva, which – by the most amazing good fortune – was delivered from Finland in February 2020.
